Alexia Puttelas Segura is Spanish female professional football player who plays for the Spanish national team and also captains the female football team of FC Barcelona known as the Barca Femeni.

Alexia Puttelas Segura was born on 4th of february 1994 in a village in the outskirt city of Barcelona called Mollet de Vallet into a family of two. She’s the eldest of two girls. Her parents are Jaume Putellas Rota and Elisabet ‘Eli’ Segura Sabaté.

Puttelas and her family are barcelona supporters and the then six year old would always accompany her father to watch Barca games in the camp nou.

Puttelas once said in an interview that while growing up, her idols were Ronaldinho, Iniesta, Rivaldo and Louisa Necib who played olympique Lyonnais.

Her father has always been her biggest hero, supporting her all through which is why it was a great heartbreak when he died few weeks before the start of the then U-19 UCL back in 2012.

Everytime Alexia scores, she points her fingers to the heavens in celebration of her father.

Puttelas has always been an advocate for peace, speaking out against arrest of Catalonia leaders who fought for referendum.

Puttelas also studied business administration and management but she didn’t finish, dropping out to focus on football.

Puttelas was born into a family of professional basketball players yet she chose to forge her own path, joining CE Sabadell at the age of six.

Alexia join the Barcelona Academy in 2005, spent just a year and left for Espanyol where she would go on to spend four years.

Puttelas started her senior career at Espanyol at barely 16 years of age. Winning the Copa De la Reina in 2010 but lost out in the finals to Barcelona the following year.

Puttelas’s career began to blossom with numerous consistent performances for espanyol and it was obvious it’s only a matter of time before she made the world her oyster.

A month after the Copa loss to Barcelona, at 17 years of age, Alexia left for espanyol to sign for levante.

She spent just one season in Levante, scoring 15 goals in 34 games to become their top scorer for the season.

The following season, Alexia Puttelas went back home, where she always dreamt to be, the club of her life FC Barcelona.

It wasn’t really a rosy first season as Barca Femini were knocked out of the UCL by Arsenal in the last 32 by an aggregate score of 7-0. Puttelas made her UCL debut on 26th September 2013.

Puttelas in an interview said the event of May 4 2013 made her feel like a footballer as she won the league title with FC Barcelona at San mames.

That same season Puttelas led Barcelona to a domestic double, the first in their history with an even better historic goal in the final dribbling the entire defenders and goalkeeper against Real Zaragoza.

Alexia kept dishing out classic performances everytime she stepped out in the Barcelona colours. Leading the team to another historic domestic double the following season scoring spectacular goals and winning awards.

It took a while for Alexia to get her first UCL goals but it did arrive in the 2014/2015 season against Slavia Prague and since then, there’s no stopping her.

In 2015, Alexia scored the first four goals of her career in a 10-0 bashing of Albacete. And she finished the 2015/2016 season with 18 goals, second highest scorer on the team.

In 2017 Puttelas got nominated in the FIFPRO 11 as a forward, the first of her career but she was knocked out of the UCL by Lyon.

Alexia went on to enjoy numerous successes winning the UCL for Barca Femini in 2020 and also winning the female Balloon d or in 2021 after winning the UEFA female player if the year, the first Spaniard to win the award.

She led Barca Femini to their first ever treble winning the league title, copa de la reina and the UCL.


As well as being two-time European champions with Spain’s U-17s, Putellas was champion of Spain with the Catalan U-14, U-15, and U-17 national teams.

Puttelas has also gone on to represent the senior side in different competitions, from the world Cup to UEFA tournaments and leagues scoring goals and captaining the side in the process.

She’s also represented Catalonia in three appearances, scoring one goal.
