Barcelona fans around the world have always held this contempt against la masia protege Xavi Simons believing he chased after money but recently, according to reports, Xavi Simons spent a week crying after leaving Barcelona.
La masia has always been known to breed talented players, midfielders most especially. As the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Thiago, Busquet and Co have all gone through the famous Academy to achieve great things
In recent times there’s been emergence from Gavi, Nico, Riqui Puig and Co but before them, there was a certain protege, dubbed the next big thing in la masia.
Xavi Simmons used to be la masia’s jewel, every cule and every club members dreamt of the day he’ll make his debut for the senior side but that never came.
Fans were left devastated when it was announced he’ll be joining PSG after failing to agree a deal with the club.
Xavi Simmons called out by club director
After his transfer to PSG, then la masia director Xavi Vilajoana called out the 16 year old midfielder,
He said
It’s very simple, he went for the money. Every player has the right to choose where they go but, to be honest, it’s difficult for me to understand why in those ages they are so desperate to earn money.”
An allegation that has recently been rebuffed by Xavi Simmons friend ferney agudelo, he said
Xavi Simons spent a week crying in his room when he left Barça. He was focued on improving each day, but Barça did not give him the guarantee that even if all went well he would be debut in the first-team before the age of 18.”
A couple of years down the line and Simmons is once again being linked with a return to Barcelona. It remains to be seen where this goes from here but certainly, the transfer to PSG hasn’t been a rollercoaster.
