His father, Pablo Paez would always accompany Gavira to training sessions as the kid has always dreamt of playing professional football and putting on the Spanish Jersey someday.

His idols growing up were iconic barcelona midfielders, Xavi and Iniesta.

At just 17 years old it came as a surprise that Gavi is an integral part of the Barcelona team.

He presents hope and is remnant of a certain breed of la masia players.

Let’s take a look at Gavi’s Club appearances before and during his time at FC Barcelona.

Gavi started playing at a very young age, representing clubs in his neighborhood. Which gained him admiration and earned him a callup to the Real Betis youth team.

Gavi represented the Betis youth team, scoring goals for fun, what’s even more impressive is him scoring about 95 goals for the youth team playing as a midfielder.

Those performances earned him a transfer to Barcelona, after being scouted by the likes of Madrid and Co, where he really began to flourish in the club’s la masia system in 2015.

He signed for Barcelona in 2015 at 11 years old played for the juvenile team for a while then signed his professional contract in 2020 at 16 years old.

His impressive performances for the youth side earned in quick promotions from the U- 16 directly to the U-19.

On 21st February 2021, Gavi made his debut for the B team. He started the following game in March and since then the sky has been his limit.

Staring alongside his partner in crime Nico Gonzalez, Gavi dictated play in midfield for the B side against oppositions.

This in turn led then Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman to call up both Gavi and Nico to the first team.

Before going further, let’s explore what exactly makes Gavira so good and an important piece of this Barcelona Club.

It only took few minutes of ESPN’s Graham Hunter to watching Gavi for him to call him something special.

He went on to compare Gavi to both Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, highlighting that Gavi has a little of both in him.

Gavi is intelligent, smart on the ball, his dribbling, anticipation, control, passing, vision and ability to hold possession can be likened to that of the midfield greats.

Aside that, Gavi is aggressive, perhaps too aggressive as that often earns him bookings but from his play, it is evident that the kid is a typical example of a modern day player with the famous Barcelona DNA.

His strength and agility is unrivaled as was seen against Spain’s top midfielders when Gavi bossed a midfield that comprised of Marco Verratti and Co.

After the game, top Italian defender Emerson Palmieri labelled the 17 year old “a huge potential”.

Having played for the B side twice in 2020-21 season, Ronald Koeman called Gavi into the first team preseason campaign.

He featured and impressed in a couple of friendlies and Koeman pushed the midfielder ahead of Riqui Puig in the pecking order.

On 29th August 2021, Gavi played his first official game for Barcelona, coming on as a substitute for Sergi Roberto in the 73rd minute.

On 18th of December, he scored his first goal and provided an assist in the 3-2 win over Elche.

Gavi has represented Spain in different age levels. Notably the U-15 and U-16 but made the jump straight to the senior team.

On October 6, Gavi became the youngest player to ever represent Spain in a semi final win over Italy in the UEFA Nations League.

Gavi is just 17 years old so he hasn’t amassed a lot of goals, especially since he’s a midfielder.

Gavi has a total of 33 official appearances under his belt scoring just 1 goal and providing 1 assist.

He’s also yet to win a trophy.

Gavi is currently making around £1600 a week but is about to sign a mega deal that’ll see him earn an astronomical figure.

Negotiations are almost complete and its been disclosed that Barcelona will be slapping a whooping €1 billion on his buyout clause to ward away clubs.

Gavi has already caught the attention of elite European clubs and according to reports both liverpool and Chelsea were willing to buyout his current clause which is just €50 million.

Barcelona are doing all they can to tie him to long term deal, same they’ve done with Pedri, Nico, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres.

Gavi’s Net worth isn’t completely known but according to his earnings, he should be worth around €300,000 currently.

Gavi will also take up the no 11 Jersey after signing his contract and is officially registered as a first team player.
