The coach is therefore prepared to reunite with him once more as he aims to create his philosophy at old Trafford.
It won’t be an easy feat prising De Jong away from Barcelona and United are prepared to offer Marcus Rashford and Alex Telles in a swap deal.
Barcelona are said to be currently uninterested in parting ways with their midfield star but that could change in the coming months as they hope to clear of certain wage bills in order to comply with financial fair play.
